BASIC GAME FLOW
First, clones will appear in your Arrival Center, and then you will assign these clones identities by splicing together genes. By splicing genes you will discover new Professions and unlock new Buildings. Clones also need a place to live so you will need to build homes. After all this building, you will eventually run out of Land, now its time to expand! This will allow you to build more and thus manage more Professions and Buildings.
NAVIGATION BASICS
- Tapping off the city grid will offer you the option to return to the town center.
- Tapping on the flashing heart bar will center you on the residence with a heart to collect.
- Pinch the screen to zoom in - there are four different levels of zoom.
Wondering where the game menu is? Main game settings are found in the Town Hall building, including notifications and IAP. Other Buildings allow you to view Achievements, make upgrades, and more.
SPENDING UTOPIUM
Utopium is scarce. Whether you're a paying player or a gamer playing for free, there are still some times that are worth your Utopium and some that aren't.
Buy:
- Premium Residences. Land is the most scarce resource in Pixel People. Don't waste it buying inefficient homes for your residents! Once you unlock the Shiny Tower, which houses six people per land square, most of your extra Utopium should be spent on them.
- Premium Decorations. Decorations turn boring towns into fun towns. But even more important, they provide Spirit. Spirit reduces land expansion costs, construction times, and more.
- Research Lab investments. Spending Utopium at the research lab lets you reduce the number of hearts to need to fill to earn a heart reward. You will need a LOT of heart rewards (hundreds) to complete your animal collection, so excess Utopium is well-spent at the research lab.
- Building Upgrades. Once you built an IT Center, buildings can be upgraded for 3 Utopium per upgrade, with a maximum upgrade level of 5. This lengthens the time that the building will produce coins before you have to check back in. Upgraded buildings = more coins in your pocket.
Don't Buy:
- Speed-ups. I know it's tempting, but save your money for the things you can't get any other way.
- Workplace hints. Save 5 Utopium per hint and just use this wiki instead!
- Premium expansions (from the Law Firm). It might be tempting to spend 40 Utopium to save millions of coins, but don't. The Utopium is useful elsewhere. The coins aren't.
TIMING
If you plan things right, you should almost never be stuck with nothing to do in Pixel People. There are three major bottlenecks you might encounter:
- Lack of residences- Lack of land- Building construction
When you see your land beginning to get tight, spend your last few land slots on new homes. That way you won't be stuck with no land and no homes to place new clones in.
Likewise, if 1-2 of your clones are stuck in the Arrival Center, waiting for their workplace to finish, see if you can place them in a different workplace to free up Arrival Center space. If you can't, look for a 0-land-cost worker to create, so they can be placed right away.
Finally, land is always scarce. You need trees and you need decorations, but keep a balance. If land is getting tight, keep your buildings producing and keep some land back for essential homes and business constructions.
SPIRIT
Spirit can be gained by building Decorations in your city. Each Spirit point gives a 1% discount on Expansion costs, and 0.5% discount on Arrival and Construction times.
While it is good to have as much Spirit in your city as possible, just remember Decorations use up your Land and most Decorations cost Utopium. So it is good to have a balance of how much of your resources (Land, Coins, and Utopium) you give up to increase your city's Spirit.
ENDGAME
The main objective of Pixel People is to discover all 150 professions. Other goals can be tracked through your progress on the Achievements list, which will quite possibly require additional gameplay beyond completing the main objective.
